Lately, some astrologers say that Jupiter, when badly placed and in bad aspects with other planets, might predict malefic overgrowth – as of cancerous cells and diseases out of control. Jupiter rules the sign of Sagittarius and Pisces.

On 16th of July 2014, Jupiter has entered the sign of Leo, which it transits until July next year. The natural growth and magnificent of Jupiter is just emphasized by the natural grandeur of Leo. This year we will deal with double optimism, courage and dignity. We might give more or benefit from the generosity of others, witness or join the battles of pride and arrogance. Ok, you take your 5 veggies a day and you drink plenty of water, but are you getting enough to nourish your skin? It seems that the body delivers only a percentage of vitamins to your skin, no matter how much you ingest, say the dermatologists.

Vitamin A, the age fighter

Vitamin A is found in 2 forms: as retinol (milk, organs, eggs) and as provitamin A (carotene), a substance that may be converted within the body to vitamin A, and is found in food of both animal and vegetal origin. Vitamin A is good for health in general (see Vitamins Chapter), but also extremely helpful for a beautiful skin: reduces wrinkles, fades brown spots and smoothes roughness. Vitamin A has been used in treatments against acne and more recently, against fine lines. “There are more than 700 published studies on retinoids — they’re tried-and-true ingredients. Anyone who wants younger-looking skin should use one,” says Doris Day, MD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at New York University Langone Medical Center.

What to eat: fish oil, liver, carrots, dark green and yellow peppers, spinach, eggs and diary. Note: the color brightness is not necessarily an indicator of the vegetables beta carotene content. It’s more important to eat them fresh and from verified sources (not GM, bred without pesticides).

On the skin: Topical vitamin A is the form that makes a real difference in your skin. Medical studies show a reduction in lines and wrinkles, good acne control, and some psoriasis relief, all from using creams containing this nutrient. You may look for creams and care products with retinol or make your own, mixing 1-2 capsules of vitamin A in your night cream, with remarkable results against aged dry skin and acne. Apply it in the evening, as sunlight inactivates most forms of vitamin A. Its action is supported by vitamin D, an ingredient found in remedies against burns and skin irritation.

Vitamin E and C are both great natural antioxidants and moisturizers used for treating skin lesions and burns, supporting skin’s UV defense (vitamin E is found in sunscreens and after sun products). Also, they have good results against fine lines and premature ageing (body and skin).

What to eat: you can find vitamin E may be stockpiled for a short period of time in the body, so it’s not necessary to eat it on a daily basis. The supplements with selenium intensify vitamin E action. The best sources of vitamin E are wheat sprouts, soya, vegetal oils, nuts, green leaves, grains and eggs.

Vitamin C is a natural collagen booster, but is rapidly burnt under stressful conditions (sun exposure, smoking, lack of sleep). Also, humans cannot synthesize vitamin C and eliminate it 3 hours after ingestion; this is why we need to eat it constantly. Vitamin C is found in all fresh food, but is rapidly destroyed by heat (temperatures higher than 60 grades Celsius). Hip rose and Accerola cherries are fruits rich in vitamin C.

On the skin: choose skin care products with the right ingredients; or mix the vitamins capsules (from the pharmacy) in your daily cream/care oils. It’ important to keep the products refrigerated (in a cool dark place) afterwards, as the vitamins are damaged by light and heat. Apply them on skin right after your steam bath/shower as they are better absorbed by cleaned humid skin.

Wafers filled with nuts and homemade caramel

Wafers are great for kids and guests, easy to make in 15 minutes. Ingredients for the tasty rich filling:

-          3 eggs; 200 g brown sugar; 200 g caster sugar; 200 g butter; 400 g crushed nuts

Before you start

Caramel is burning of sugar to produce a very deep, rich, brown-colored sauce. The process consists of heating sugar slowly to around 170 °C (340 °F). As the sugar heats, the molecules break down and reform into compounds with a characteristic color and flavor. You need a stainless saucepan to burn the 200 g of caster sugar. However, it takes some practice to get the burning of the sugar just right. It is always advisable to burn it gradual, so you can stop before it isn’t literally burnt, turning black and bitter. Be extra careful while you are cooking the sugar. Once the sugar has melted it has a much higher temperature than boiling water. Also, when you add the cream, the mixture will foam up, so use a pan with high sides.

  1. In this pan, whisk the eggs (whites and yolks together) with the brown sugar and heat it on the hob, as the sugar melts and the mix is thickening a little.
  2. Burn the caster sugar until it is golden brown.
  3. Pour it little by little into the hot egg cream, stirring vigorously with a whisk or wooden spoon. When all the burnt sugar is melted into the egg cream, add the crushed nuts and at the end, the butter, when the mix has cooled.
  4. Spread the cream onto the wafer sheets (bought from the market), in 2 or three rows. Put a heavy load on the top of it and keep it for a couple of hours, so that the cream cakes between the wafer sheets and tie them together.

Aries (21st March-20th April) Predictions 2013-2014

If you are born in the sign of Aries, Jupiter in Cancer is in an aspect of square with your natal Sun. This is not the best aspect you wish for, especially if you are a typical Aries born or with the Ascendant in Aries: impulsive, impatient, aggressive or arrogant.  You might be confronted with obstacles caused by your ego, stubborn pride, greed, self indulgence or overestimation. You tend to exaggerate in judging situations and assume uncalculated risks during this time. Jupiter makes you want to express your personal freedom and pushes you to adopt an adventurous spirit and a daring behavior. Be careful, dear Aries, your hasty disposition might bring you problems with law, education or travel.

Moreover, Jupiter transiting Cancer is in opposition with mighty Pluto in Capricorn and square with transiting Uranus in Aries, making a cross in cardinal signs. Transiting Pluto

To you, dear Capricorn

I am a Capricorn myself and I know what you’re getting through these months, mainly if you are born between 22 Dec and 3 Jan. It’s about transiting Pluto.

The transit of Pluto through the zodiac is 248 years. Its influence is subtle, but intense. Pluto has such an erratic orbit that it spends from over thirty years in some signs to about a dozen years in others. We are lucky, dear Capricorn, because Pluto entered our sign on April 2008 and is going to stay here until March 2023, for “only” 15 years. Things will never be the same after Pluto passed through your natal sign.

Pluto is now at 12 degrees in Capricorn, so if you were born sometime during the last decade of December and the first days of January, you have already felt its influence. The rest of the Capricorn natives (born through 3 Jan-19 Jan) will know, reading this, what to expect through the next 10 years.

What you might experience is intense self–awareness and the urge to attain recognition as an individual with influence and power. No matter how much strength and power you have developed before this period comes along, you will want some more. If you are already a determined, dominating and independent person, your actions may become only a little more daring than usual. If you have not been able to exert yourself, to take chances with your destiny and to control people and situations in your life, the independent actions you take now might seem quite courageous to you and the people around you. In its transiting path over your Sun, Pluto squares transiting Uranus, an aspect that affects Pluto and your Sun in a challenging way. With Uranus in transit, expect the unexpected. In square, expect sudden events that affect your entourage, friends, family or job; bad news in one aspect of life that affects you and your independence, if not directly, through those you love and care. It may be a parent with health problems that you have to deal with or a house that you lose in favor of the bank; you may lose a long term job as an employee and be forced to start another, this time as an entrepreneur; or you may find out your fiancé (whom you didn’t love or appreciate anyway) was cheating on you and you decide the separation. Anything you lose, there will be something else to gain in exchange. Even if you don’t see the gaining right away, you will see it through time.

Pluto is transiting your Sun and maybe your natal Mercury or Venus, as those little faster planets go close to the Sun. If it’s your native Venus in Capricorn, then Pluto might bring you your soul mate. This could be the time to establish powerful, karmic relationships (business or marriage). On the other hand, Pluto and Uranus in square might bring power struggle (with odds in your favor) confrontations.

If it’s your native Mercury that Pluto is transiting together with the Sun, your intellectual awareness deepens. You start to recognize hidden meanings and motivations behind the words, yours and the others. You might become interested in investigation, research, analysis or studies. You increase your influence within the community with your ideas and words or you have a strong will to do so.

Starting with June 2013, for a year long, Jupiter in Cancer will oppose Pluto in transit and your native Sun and maybe native Mercury and Venus. This will be a tough time, when you want more and can less. You might be tempted to risk valuable things for a chimera – don’t. Saturn is in your favor for a couple of years, but it rewards only hard work and persistence, so avoid gambling.

Back to nature

Eat more veggie, drink 1 glass of red wine a day (optional), run for your life! Active people who eat the right food usually live 15 years longer!

  1. Eat Mediterranean. Research has shown that the traditional Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of heart disease. In fact, a recent analysis of more than 1.5 million healthy adults demonstrated that following a Mediterranean diet was associated with a reduced risk of overall and cardiovascular mortality, a reduced incidence of cancer and cancer mortality, and a reduced incidence of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. The Mediterranean diet is poor in red meat, rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, olives and a splash of extra virgin flavorful olive oil, herbs and spices.
  2. Steamed is better than boiled and both are better than fried. Boiled vegetables lose up to 77% of their good compounds, protective against cancer. Forget the microwave, which also destroy almost all the antioxidants. The fried food is rich in acrylamide, a substance ssuspected to raise the risk of ovarian and uterine cancer.
  3. Give up sweets and soft drinks. High levels of glycaemic index (blood sugar) is related to pancreatic and urinary bladder cancer.
  4.  Eat fish three times a week. Fish is good for your heart and brain, but also for your bowel,  reducing this type of cancer by a third.
  5. Grapes are great for health. They are rich in resveratrol (mainly in skin and seeds), a key ingredient which is also found in red wine and helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces “bad” cholesterol and prevents blood clots. The alcohol and certain substances in red wine called antioxidants may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of “good” cholesterol and protecting against artery damage. While the news about red wine might sound great if you enjoy a glass of red wine with your evening meal, doctors are wary of encouraging anyone to start drinking alcohol. That’s because too much alcohol can have many harmful effects on your body.

On June 26th 2013, Jupiter enters the sign of Cancer and moves through it until July 17th 2014. In Cancer, Jupiter is in the so called the “exaltation” status. Some astrologers say this is a great position for Jupiter, an example of cornucopia. Others say that “exalted” Jupiter might bring unwanted growth, like large expenses and a larger waist. Sweet & sourish

Fruit cake

I love it with sour cherries, but you can try it with other fruits, too, like apricots, peaches, cherries, blueberries etc. It needs dough at the bottom and batter on top, but it’s easy and fast to make.

The dough

200 gr butter

1 egg yolk

100 gr powder sugar

300 gr flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

Vanilla flavor

Mix the butter and sugar until it gets a dense cream, add the yolk and the rest of ingredients into a soft dough. Spread it on a buttered baking sheet and level it. Spread it with cherries (stones evicted).

3 spoons caster sugar

3 spoons (full) of flour

Mix the yolks and the sugar until it melts. Add the flour and the whites whipped until stiff. Mix it slowly then pour it over the cherries on the baking sheet. Bake the cake at 180 Celsius for 40 minutes or until golden. Bon appetite!

Auch, it hurts! This is a common problem and not only one of old aged.
